Brief background: we held two pilot sittings last year to test and improve our format, then cancelled our third sitting due to bungled organisation. Now I’m organising the whole project better and splitting tasks up among more volunteer clerks.

I’ve had around 12 offers from people who’ve said they’d like to help out. I recently met our existing clerks and officers, who are still keen, and we worked out how to organise each sitting better.

If you came to our first sitting, you’ll probably remember feeling a little like a guinea pig. The whole evening was an experiment in how to debate. The central idea of bringing all sorts of people together and having them argue about a political topic with relevant scientists and researchers in the room worked. But some of the finer details didn’t. Here’s where our founding format didn’t work last time and how it’ll be different next time.

  3. Why we need to charge people to debate in the Rational Parliament

You’re already paying for one parliament. The one in Westminster (and maybe some of the others too). Yet I’m almost certain that you’re rarely satisfied with what goes on it. So why should you pay for the Rational Parliament too? Because it’s yours, silly.

Next sitting: coming soon
